Auxiliary Systems Mechanical Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, Mi 
Employment Type: Full-Time | Hours: 40 hrs/week, Mon–Fri
Pay Range: $93K - $97K per year - 
 

About the Role
You will design, develop, and release mechanical and fluid components and subsystems for military ground vehicles. In this role, you’ll apply engineering principles to solve complex problems and support the build, test, and production of innovative vehicle systems. Your work will directly contribute to vehicle performance, safety, and mission readiness, making a tangible impact on troop effectiveness and operational success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and integrate mechanical and auxiliary systems, including hydraulic actuation, pneumatics, fuel, camera cleaning, automatic fire suppression, LRU cooling, winch and fairlead systems.
  • Develop and integrate components into vehicle platforms while meeting performance, human factors, safety, environmental, ballistic, and mine-blast requirements.
  • Conduct mechanical component and mechanism design, including shock and vibration isolation systems, mounting devices, stowage equipment, seating, crew accommodations, battery enclosures, and driver controls.
  • Apply mechanics of materials, material selection, welding, and fabrication principles for complex components and brackets.
  • Perform analysis and design work, drawing/model mark-ups, tolerance stacks, and generate source data for engineering changes.
  • Write material requests, shop work requests, track parts delivery and inventory, and participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and reporting.
  • Support prototype, production, and sustainment vehicle efforts, including troubleshooting, corrective actions, and redesign activities.
  • Present design concepts and program status clearly to functional and program management while addressing risk.
  • Direct and oversee CAD model and drawing development.
  • Conduct failure analysis and provide corrective recommendations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on various programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering with mechanical systems experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience in a related engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience supporting prototype and/or production build activities.
  • Knowledge of fluid systems, functional architecture, schematics, and analytical modeling.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Solid modeling experience with NX and/or Creo.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • US Citizenship required (this is a US Government Contract).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup.
  • Previous experience working on military ground combat vehicles.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% to other facilities or military installations.
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends, evenings, or overtime.
  • Ability to climb on/off, work in, and around military vehicles.
  • Focus on fluid or distributed systems is a plus.
  • Eligibility to obtain a US security clearance.
