Pay Range: $50-$54/hour

About the Role
Join our client’s advanced engineering team in Sterling Heights as a Contractor Software Specialist, where you’ll design, develop, and test mission-critical software for next-generation ground combat vehicles. This position plays a key role in building and maintaining the software development environments and embedded systems that power advanced vehicle electronics, weapon systems, and diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities
·Design, configure, and test software development environments used for code, documentation, and testing artifacts
·Develop software documentation and code across multiple vehicle domains including board support, DSP, power management, lethality, deployment, and diagnostics
·Perform software requirements analysis and translate specifications into design and implementation plans
·Develop detailed software designs using approved department tools and standards
·Write, test, and debug software code in C, C++, Ada, and related environments
·Conduct hardware/software integration and resolve system-level software issues
·Develop and execute test procedures, including unit and functional testing
·Manage configuration and release integration for multiple software components (CSCI-level integration)
·Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Project Management, and Software Quality teams to ensure seamless integration and compliance
·Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives
Required Qualifications
·Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
·5–7+ years of professional software engineering experience
·Experience with tools and languages such as GIT, Bitbucket, Ada, C, C++, Qt, Yocto, and Workbench
·Hands-on experience working in mixed OS environments (VxWorks, Linux, RTOS, Virtualization, BSPs, GVOS)
·Proficiency with serial and network protocols (RS-232/422, CAN, TCP/IP, UDP/IP)
·Experience with Linux system image build tools (Yocto preferred)
·Familiarity with Eclipse, gcc, DOORs, Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, gdb, or QT
·Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
·U.S. Citizenship required due to nature of work
Preferred Qualifications
·Experience with ground combat vehicle network architectures
·Familiarity with GCIA, MOSA, SOSA, and FACE standards
·Experience with Linux device drivers, bootloaders, and system programming
·Knowledge of cybersecurity principles —authentication, nonrepudiation, confidentiality, and integrity
·Experience with Type I & II hypervisors and embedded system security
·Comfortable working in prototype, laboratory, and manufacturing environments
·Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

·Ability to climb on/off and work around military vehicles required (ASR test)
·Overtime may be required during peak project phases
