Position: Embedded Cyber Software Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Pay Rate: $52.00 –$56.75/hour
Schedule: 100% On-Site

Position Overview
The Embedded Cyber Software Engineer will join an agile engineering team responsible for the development and support of embedded cyber work products for ground combat vehicle platforms. This position supports Cyber and C5ISR product realization activities including architecture, technology development, evaluation, testing, and compliance.

The role focuses on embedded software engineering within a Security Enhanced Linux-based environment, ensuring cybersecurity integration and interoperability across multiple data-sharing domains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply computer science and engineering principles to develop software for target hardware platforms

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define and evaluate hardware/software interfaces and system performance requirements

  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle including requirements, design, implementation, integration, and formal testing

  • Develop and maintain software tools, scripts, and XML configuration files

  • Ensure software compliance with accreditation and configuration control requirements

  • Develop data/message protocol transformation applications to enable interoperability

  • Perform development within a Security Enhanced embedded Linux-based OS environment

  • Participate in peer reviews and defect tracking

  • Conduct structured trade studies related to cyber test design and system-level impacts

  • Develop and review technical artifacts and CDRLs to ensure compliance

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline (Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering preferred)

  • Strong background in C, C++, C#, Java, or Rust, particularly in embedded software

  • Experience with Linux or VxWorks OS internals

  • Experience with board support packages (BSP) and hardware/software integration

  • Experience integrating firewalls to protect embedded systems

  • Experience with reverse engineering and software analysis

  • Low-level programming of device drivers

  • Experience across full software lifecycle phases

  • Knowledge of IDE tools, version control systems, CI/CD pipelines

  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UART, SPI, I2C)

  • Familiarity with electronic hardware troubleshooting

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher

  • Experience developing and implementing cybersecurity measures for embedded systems

  • Experience with embedded, automotive, or military-related systems

  • Ability to work non-duty hours or weekends as required

  • Must meet Anthropometric Size Restrictions and be able to climb/access military vehicles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cybersecurity certifications (CISSP, CEH)

  • Experience interpreting higher-level customer requirements and flowing down to implementation
