Job Title: Thermal Management Engineer –HVAC & Vehicle Systems
Location: Sterling Heights, MI (Onsite)
Position Type: Contract
Pay Rate: $46.43 –$50.00/hour
Position Overview
Contract Professionals, Inc. Is seeking a Thermal Management Engineer to support the design, development, and release of heating, cooling, and ventilation subsystems for military ground vehicle platforms. This role focuses on powerpack (engine/transmission) cooling, electronics thermal management, and crew cabin HVAC integration.
The selected candidate will support subsystem architecture, supplier coordination, and validation efforts across prototype and production vehicle programs.
Key Responsibilities
•Design and integrate thermal management systems including powerpack, electronics, and crew HVAC systems
•Derive vehicle-level performance requirements and develop engineering design specifications
•Perform fluid flow analyses to size and optimize distribution systems
•Develop alternative design concepts and conduct trade studies
•Design, select, and integrate HVAC components and subsystems
•Track weight, cost, thermal, and power allocations
•Develop and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDPs) and release drawings per Engineering Release Plan (ERP)
•Prepare SOWs, CIDS, ICDs, SSPs, and support RFP activities
•Conduct supplier source selection and evaluate technical proposals
•Provide technical oversight to suppliers during design development and validation
•Support prototype builds, create test plans, execute tests, and generate validation reports
•Conduct lab-based engineering evaluations
•Lead investigation and corrective action for production or field issues
•Develop ROMs, BOEs, and project plans for future efforts
•Present at formal design reviews and prepare technical reports
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
•5+ years of thermal or mechanical systems engineering experience
•Strong understanding of mechanical and thermal engineering principles
•Experience supporting prototype and/or production build activities
•Ability to travel up to 20% as required
•Ability to obtain a U.S. Security clearance
•U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience supporting ground combat vehicle programs
•Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup
•Experience managing supplier technical development
•Experience performing fluid flow analysis and HVAC component integration
Work Environment Requirements
•Onsite position
•Ability to climb on/off and work in/around military vehicles
•Must meet ASR requirements
•Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends
