Distributed & Fluid Systems Engineer –Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems (AFES)
Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Pay: $46–$51/hour
Work Type: Onsite
Clearance: Ability to Obtain Security Clearance


Overview:
Seeking a Distributed & Fluid Systems Engineer to design and develop Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems (AFES) and other mechanical/fluid subsystems for military ground vehicles. This role supports design release, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and production of critical vehicle systems.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and release AFES, fuel, hydraulics, pneumatics, camera cleaning, cooling distribution, and bilge systems
  • Integrate components into vehicle platforms to meet performance, safety, and survivability requirements
  • Develop fluid system architecture, schematics, and analytical models
  • Perform mechanical design analysis, tolerance stack-ups, and engineering changes
  • Support prototype builds, production, sustainment, and troubleshooting efforts
  • Create and support DFMEA, DVP&R, SSDD, and SRS documentation
  • Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Direct CAD model and drawing development
  • Present technical concepts and program status to leadership and customers


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related Engineering field
  • 5–7 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and fluid systems engineering principles
  • Experience with prototype and production support
  • Experience with root cause / corrective action processes
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams
  • Strong communication and organizational skills


Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems (AFES)
  • Experience developing fluid schematics and troubleshooting distributed systems
  • Proficiency with NX and/or Creo
  • Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup
  • Prior experience with ground combat vehicles or defense platforms
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
