Embedded Linus RTOS/DevSecOps-Software Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, MI 
Employment Type: Full-Time, Contract

Are you a skilled engineer passionate about embedded systems and secure software deployment? CPI is seeking a Software Integration Engineer to support software loader, verification, and DevSecOps initiatives for vehicle electronic systems. In this role, you’ll contribute to building, deploying, and maintaining embedded software across lab environments and operational platforms, ensuring security, reliability, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Load components with software images for official releases in lab and vehicle environments.
  • Build and configure embedded operating systems (VxWorks, Linux, or others).
  • Perform Linux system programming tasks, including driver development and hardware enablement.
  • Integrate software into automated build systems and maintain build environments (Yocto, Buildroot, OpenEmbedded).
  • Develop, test, deploy, and maintain embedded software while improving operational processes.
  • Implement and support embedded system security using cryptography and secure architectures.
  • Write and maintain automation scripts (Bash, Python, Go, or similar).
  • Troubleshoot low-level software issues and identify hardware vs. Software failures.
  • Advocate for DevOps and CI/CD best practices, including GitOps principles.
  • Document infrastructure, automation scripts, and processes.
  • Collaborate with developers to optimize deployment and software integration.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5–7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with modern CI/CD tools (GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD).
  • Strong scripting and automation skills.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ development for maintainable embedded software.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving performance or deployment bottlenecks.
  • U.S. Citizenship required for government contract eligibility.

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Familiarity with Agile, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Deployment concepts.
  • Knowledge of Linux device drivers, bootloaders, and memory maps.
  • Experience maintaining safety-critical or real-time systems.
  • Exposure to security features such as SELinux, verified boot, and trusted execution environments.
  • Experience with software development for ground combat vehicles.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, able to work across teams and functions.
  • Ability to work in prototype shops, labs, manufacturing, and office environments.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed and support continuous improvement initiatives.
