Job Description
Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a Engineering Excellence Manager to lead the development and implementation of engineering processes, design standards, and best practices across the organization. This role is located in Troy, MI and involves close collaboration with engineering teams and coordination with global business units. The Manager will also mentor staff, maintain performance metrics, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the refinement and implementation of engineering processes and best practices.
- Develop and deliver training for engineering staff to ensure knowledge retention.
- Coordinate with international teams to ensure consistency in processes and standards.
- Maintain the engineering SharePoint site for effective content distribution.
- Define and track engineering performance KPIs.
- Prepare technical presentations for internal and external audiences.
- Communicate progress, results, and recovery plans to senior management.
- Mentor engineers and foster professional growth within the team.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Supervise 1-3 direct reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Familiarity with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) ground vehicle requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
- Knowledge of open architecture software development or implementation.
- Proven track record in delivering projects from concept to production.
- Thorough understanding of military standards and regulations.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiasm for collaboration with international colleagues.
- High level of self-motivation, adaptability, and ability to prioritize tasks under pressure.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems) or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of defense industry experience.
- Experience managing large, complex U.S. Defense programs.
- Background in vehicle design, development, and manufacturing.
- Expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering and Digital Engineering.
- Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and conduct technical reviews.
- Experience in proposal development, including technical and cost volumes.
Background Prerequisites:
- Must pass company standards for background checks, employment verification, reference checks, and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active SECRET clearance is desired.
- Experience scaling engineering teams and processes in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Travel up to 25%, including occasional international travel to Europe.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
