Job Description
Location: Plymouth, MI
Salary: $100k-125k (based on experience)
Schedule: Hybrid | Full-time, 40 hours/week (start no later than 9 AM, end no earlier than 3 PM)
Our client, a well-established firm specializing in building mechanical systems, is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead and develop project teams across HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems for various market sectors including retail, commercial, and healthcare. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone passionate about technical excellence, team mentorship, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams on multiple projects from concept to completion
- Oversee system design for HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems, ensuring code compliance and client satisfaction
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, utility providers, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver efficient and integrated solutions
- Review and approve project designs, system layouts, energy efficiency plans, and cost evaluations
- Manage project schedules, budgets, resource planning, and invoicing
- Conduct site visits and lead the QA/QC process, risk management, and compliance efforts
- Drive team development through recruitment, training, and ongoing mentorship
- Represent the department in internal meetings, client discussions, and professional networks
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including leadership of technical teams
- Strong background in mechanical system design (HVAC, plumbing, piping) for commercial/retail/healthcare markets
- Familiarity with applicable codes, energy standards, and best practices in sustainability
- Excellent organizational, communication, and team-building skills
- Experience collaborating with clients, vendors, and contractors
