Job Description


Primary Tasks:
  • Lead the development and documentation of component and subsystem requirements for the electrical harness system.
  • Design electrical wiring harness BOM, including component selection for connectors, backshells, sleeving, cables, braiding, sealants, boots, transitions, etc.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, EMC, Systems Engineering, Packaging Analysis, Design Services, Planning, and Program teams to develop harness components meeting key performance and timing targets.
  • Determine harness layout through vehicle and branch points for multi-branch harnesses.
  • Design to environmental requirements for temperature, shock, vibration, submergence, and exposure to harsh chemicals.
  • Create and design drawings for harnesses in Capital Harness System (CHS) (aka Mentor Graphics) software, specifically using Harness XC, Capital Logic, and Capital Topology.
  • Work with designers and physical architects to route harnesses.
  • Coordinate harness design execution to support multiple products, including harness schematic maturity, routings, drawings, installations, interconnects, and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Track harness design progress and present to key stakeholders.
  • Ensure harness design and interfaces adhere to engineering standards for on-time high-quality delivery.
  • Lead and support continuous process improvement, best practices, lessons learned, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership to ensure issue resolution and appropriate technical direction for artifacts of responsibility.
  • Train, coach, and mentor other team members in areas of strong competency.
  • Work with systems engineers to define whole vehicle pin-level interconnect.

Additional Tasks:
  • Verify circuit breaker settings, contact sizes, and connections to meet power requirements.
  • Work with digital systems to process changes, redline drawings, identify root causes, and develop preventative measures.
  • Support the build of vehicles for wiring support.
  • Support the build of prototype and production builds of harnesses.
  • Work with systems engineers to define whole vehicle pin-level interconnect.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to balance cost, schedule, and technical priorities.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend hours may be required to complete critical tasks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio is desirable.
  • Experience with Capital Harness System (CHS) (aka Mentor Graphics) software, specifically in Harness XC, Capital Logic, and Capital Topology is desirable.
  • Basic proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use Engineering Development and Test Tools.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance if necessary.
