Abrams Tank Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Anniston, AL
About the Role
You will support critical maintenance and modernization efforts for the Abrams family of tanks in both field and shop environments. This role plays a key part in ensuring fleet readiness through preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and installation of modification work orders. You’ll work closely with government personnel while contributing to mission-critical defense operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) on Abrams tank variants
- Install and execute modification work orders (MWOs)
- Read and interpret technical manuals, diagnostic procedures, and flow diagrams
- Troubleshoot systems, subsystems, and components
- Maintain accountability of special tools, test equipment, and property
- Support maintenance, fielding, and retrofit activities as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year of general mechanical maintenance experience (military vehicles preferred)
- Basic knowledge of mechanical tools and military test equipment
- Ability to access U.S. Military installations (NACI clearance if required)
- U.S. Person status required
- Valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain a tank driver’s license
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb, work at heights, and operate in extreme conditions
- Ability to work independently and in team-oriented environments
- Experience with the Abrams family of tanks (M1A1, M1A2 SEP variants)
- Prior experience installing MWOs or working on tracked combat vehicles
- Travel required to support maintenance and retrofit activities
- Must meet anthropometric requirements for enclosed military vehicle operation
- Successful completion of Abrams Job Proficiency Certification required
