Prep Technician (Surface Prep)
Wixom, MI
$20–$25 per hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6: 00 a.M. –4: 00 p.M. (5x10s, 50 hrs/week)

  • 1-hour unpaid lunch

  • Two paid 15-minute breaks

About the Role
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Prep Technician to support surface preparation activities for manufactured components. This role is hands-on and essential to ensuring high-quality finishing and assembly processes.

Primary Duties

  • Prepare part surfaces (sanding, cleaning, light filling, etc.) for downstream operations

  • Tape, mask, and cover parts according to process and quality standards

  • Inspect surfaces for defects, contamination, or imperfections that may affect final quality

  • Tag and segregate nonconforming parts

  • Communicate material, quality, or process concerns to the lead or supervisor

  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow all safety and 5S guidelines

  • Follow work instructions, production schedules, and documented quality standards

Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience in any of the following environments are encouraged to apply:

  • Auto body prep (sanding, masking, surface prep for paint)

  • Wood finishing or refinishing shops

  • Production painting or finishing facilities

  • Manufacturing environments involving part prep, masking, or inspection

Skills & Qualifications

  • High attention to detail and quality

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment

  • Strong reliability and punctuality

  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and use hands/arms for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and move parts as required (typical manufacturing component weights)
