Mechanical Engineer Welding, NDE and Structural Design

Up to $46/hour (based on experience)
Position Overview
Seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support welded structure design, fabrication oversight, and NDE validation for mission-critical defense systems. This role focuses on welding standards, inspection methods, and structural design verification.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and verify welded assemblies to AWS and ASME standards
- Develop and review engineering drawings and weld symbols (AWS A2.4, ASME Y14.100)
- Create and maintain technical documentation (drawings, specs, procedures)
- Apply NDE methods (RT, UT, MT, PT, VT) for inspection and acceptance
- Develop and manage Creo 3D models and drawing packages
- Support supplier oversight and on-site inspections
- Participate in fabrication, testing, and customer witness events
- Support weld procedure and welder qualifications (ASME Section IX)
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and program teams
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 2+ years of experience (or Master’s + 6 months)
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
Key Skills
- Welding design & structural analysis
- NDE techniques (RT, UT, MT, PT, VT)
- Engineering drawings & standards (AWS, ASME)
- Creo (PTC) CAD modeling
- Strong technical documentation and reporting skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in defense, aerospace, or government programs
- Knowledge of MIL-SPEC welding/fabrication standards
- AWS CWI certification (plus)
- NDE Level II certification (plus)
- Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section IX
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 10% for supplier and test support
- Ability to work onsite or hybrid (as permitted)
