Job Description


Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Product Designer in Troy, MI, to support the design, development, and integration of components and subsystems for military combat vehicles. This role involves a wide range of design responsibilities, from feasibility studies to production-level manufacturing techniques. The ideal candidate will have expertise in CAD processes and a strong understanding of prototype and production methodologies.


Essential Functions:
  • Manage designs using CAD software per project requirements.
  • Create 3D components (parts and assemblies) and apply MBD (Model-Based Definition) elements.
  • Generate 2D drawings, including component details, system installations, and top-level exploded views.
  • Conduct feasibility and kinematic studies.
  • Develop and manage Bill of Materials (BOM) structures.
  • Utilize foundational knowledge of CAD data management, including engineering change requests and configuration management.
  • Perform reverse engineering, dimensional stack-ups, and troubleshoot design issues.
  • Apply and improve ASME standards (MBD and 2D drawings) and GD&T practices.
  • Engage in design reviews and customer meetings, providing technical support as needed.
  • Support concurrent engineering, procurement, and prototype build/integration activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge/Skills:
    • Expertise in CAD-based systems and related standards/processes.
    • Familiarity with U.S. DoD ground vehicle requirements and procedures.
    • Ability to present technical solutions effectively to stakeholders.
    • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Adaptability and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Education:
    • Associate's degree in Product Design (Mechanical, Structural, Systems, Aerospace, Automotive) or equivalent.

  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of product design and development experience in U.S. Defense programs.
    • Proficiency in PTC Creo Parametric.
    • Experience in multi-disciplinary and corporate environments.

  • Background Prerequisites:
    • Must pass background checks, employment verification, and controlled substance testing.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or related).
  • Familiarity with 3D top-down design methods and finite element analysis.
  • Knowledge of technical manuals and illustrations for DoD environments.
  • German language proficiency is a plus.


Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Travel may be required domestically and internationally.
