Position Description:
This position is for a steering design & release (D&R) engineer for upper steering components. Upper steering includes: steering columns, column mounted transmission shift levers and shift mechanisms, intermediate shafts (Ishafts) and dash seals. The position would involve: 1) Project management of component D&R with steering suppliers. This includes tracking, reviewing and approving CAD drawings, design changes, testing and results, etc. To ensure quality parts are delivered on time to the program and Ford plant. 2) Interfacing with other areas to support requests affecting upper steering parts This includes plant VO assembly, ergonomics, crash safety, vehicle dynamics, NVH, studio/craftsmanship, etc. 3) Reviewing upper steering parts on prototype build vehicles to ensure they are correctly built prior to testing 4) DFMEA, PFMEA and other quality document reviews and approvals for your steering parts. Needs to be an individual who pays attention to details and willing to put in the extra effort to do things right the first time and on time. You would be part of a team who would help train you on the Ford processes and how to get things done. But must be able to think on your own and not wait for step-by-step instructions.

Skills Preferred:
1) DFMEA, PFMEA and quality document experience

Experience Required:
Willing to consider candidates with 0 to 4 years of experience for the position but the bill rate should be in line with their experience.

Experience Preferred:
internships or some part time work in the automotive field. But full time past experience not required.

Education Required:
BS or higher degree in Engineering. Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Education Preferred:
1) sports - athletics 2) Activities outside of school 3) community service
