Project Engineer ( Panel Build)
Location: Grand Rapids MI
Full Time- M-F 
Rate: $48- $55 an hour ( based on experience)


The Project Engineer –Panel Build is responsible for the design, coordination, and execution of industrial control panel projects from concept through completion. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and customer requirements.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the engineering and execution of control panel build projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination
  • Develop and review electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials
  • Collaborate with design, procurement, and production teams to ensure project alignment
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.G., CSA, UL, NEC as applicable)
  • Support procurement by specifying components and reviewing vendor submittals
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address risks, delays, or technical issues
  • Conduct design reviews, FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), and support commissioning as needed
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including revisions, reports, and closeout packages
  • Drive continuous improvement in panel design, build processes, and project execution


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • 3–7+ years of experience in control panel design, industrial automation, or related project engineering
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (e.G., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN)
  • Strong understanding of industrial control systems, PLCs, and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and standards (CSA, UL, NEC)
  • Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills


Preferred Skills
  • Experience with panel fabrication and shop processes
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and project tracking tools
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and commissioning experience
