Job Description

Incumbent will be performing technical publication authoring, editing, XML coding and illustration insertion in support of development technical manual pages for key vehicle programs (Abrams, Stryker and Others).

Candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET Security Clearance within a reasonable time of hire.

Primary Responsibilities for Technical Writer include:
  • Perform technical publication authoring, editing, XML coding and illustration insertion in support of development technical manual pages for key vehicle programs (Abrams, Stryker and Others).
  • XML authoring, page editing and end product publishing of technical manual procedures to support various vehicle Operation, Maintenance and Fault Troubleshooting.
  • Routinely interpret various source type information including procedural mark-ups, technical drawings, parts lists or draft installation instructions to produce paper and electronic viewer technical manual products.

Technical Writers who apply must be able to perform the following:
  • Author procedures using Extensible Markup Language (XML) using Arbortext software
  • Interpret procedural mark-ups into textual, tabular and illustrative changes required in XML
  • Develop draft/mark-up illustration change requests (as required for procedural page changes)
  • Publish, proofread and efficiently edit procedures to ensure high-level authoring quality
  • Meet basic authoring quality standards as set by the department manager and customer
  • Be available to work limited overtime as required to meet production deadlines
  • Be able to obtain a US SECRET Security Clearance (if required for projects assigned)

Technical Writer applicants with solid familiarities of the following would be highly favored:
  • Use of Military Specifications, namely MIL-STD 40051 and MIL-STD 38784
  • Use of IETM electronic viewers such as EMS-NG and IADS
  • Use of Military Technical Manuals for Operation, Maintenance and Troubleshooting
  • Use of Adobe PDF making and Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)

Education Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent is required/

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET Security Clearance within a reasonable time of hire. All applicants selected will be subject to a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, US citizenship is required.
