Senior Advanced Safety Systems Engineer –Torpedo Systems Group

Location: Canonsburg, PA
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site | Hours: 40 hrs/week, Mon–Fri (9/80 schedule available)

About the Role
As a Senior Advanced Safety Systems Engineer for our client’s Torpedo Systems Group, you will lead efforts to identify, classify, and mitigate safety hazards within the systems engineering process. Your work will span requirements analysis, functional and performance analysis, verification/validation, and interface definition with a focus on ensuring personnel safety. You will collaborate closely with program management, technical leadership, and customers to shape architecture, design, and technology choices related to safety-critical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive requirements analysis, definition, management, and functional/performance analysis across system and subsystem levels

  • Lead safety hazard identification, classification, and mitigation within the systems engineering (SE) process

  • Provide technical leadership and decision-making on architecture, design, and technology choices related to safety

  • Serve as a recognized technical lead on safety across torpedo systems programs

  • Present test strategies, plans, and results to customers;negotiate direction and influence outcomes

  • Support setup, configuration, and documentation of hardware and software systems under test

  • Contribute to test plan development, requirements traceability, test case implementation, and acceptance activities

  • Document issues, analyze results, and support troubleshooting of components, assemblies, and systems

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics field

  • 8+ years of relevant experience (or Master’s degree plus 6 years)

  • Agile development experience preferred

  • Department of Defense Secret clearance obtainable within a reasonable timeframe

  • U.S. Citizenship required

  • Proven leadership skills managing complex, multi-disciplinary engineering teams

  • Strong systems engineering expertise with emphasis on safety-significant requirements

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with system safety standards such as MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52, JOTP-51, MIL-HDBK-2155, and T9070-AL-DPC-020/077-2

  • Demonstrated technical excellence in safety systems engineering solutions for DoD requirements

  • Hardware/software integration experience and system test leadership

  • Ability to prepare cost and schedule estimates for design tasks

  • Strong brokering and consensus-building skills with internal and external stakeholders

  • Experience mentoring and collaborating effectively across engineering teams

  • This role is fully on-site at the Canonsburg, PA facility
