Survivability Armor Engineer
Location: Troy MI

Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a Survivability Armor Engineer at their office in Troy, MI, to develop and support designs for combat vehicle armor and structures. This role involves integrating subsystems and implementing features to protect vehicle crews. Candidates with experience in armor vehicle design or armor plating are encouraged to apply.
Essential Functions:
- Design and develop armor vehicles and plating (metallic/composite).
- Support subsystem integration, testing, and verification activities.
- Create design layouts, sketches, and data for modifications.
- Coordinate with materials engineers to ensure proper material usage.
- Communicate design factors such as material availability, efficiency, and compliance with government specifications.
- Prepare engineering drawings, reports, and procedures.
- Represent the organization in internal and external meetings.
- Travel up to 25%, including occasional international travel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:
None.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in armor vehicle design and/or armor plating development.
- Proficiency with CAD design systems.
- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering techniques.
- Knowledge of U.S. DoD ground vehicle requirements, processes, and military standards.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Practical, hands-on attitude with the ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of vehicle survivability technologies and equipment.
- Eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance up to SECRET.
- Broad engineering background, including mechanical, electrical, software, and materials coursework.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.G., Mechanical, Materials).
Experience:
- 5+ years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Engineering (e.G., Mechanical, Electrical, Systems).
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software (e.G., CREO).
- Military experience.
- Understanding of systems engineering standards and processes.
Background Prerequisites:
- Must meet standards for background checks, employment verification, reference checks, and controlled substance testing.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Continuously sitting;occasional physical demands as required.
- Ability to work overtime when needed.
- Travel requirements up to 25%, including potential international travel.
