Job Summary
Our client, a leader in next-generation combat vehicle development, is seeking a Survivability Manager to drive the development of advanced survivability solutions for the Next Generation Combat Vehicle/Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (NGCV/OMFV) program. This role will lead efforts to define and implement a balanced system design that integrates physical protection, active protection, and signature management technologies to enhance vehicle and crew survivability in combat environments.
Essential Functions
- Lead the development and integration of armor, active protection, and signature management technologies.
- Optimize vehicle protection by balancing cost, weight, and performance.
- Serve as the Design Authority for survivability, overseeing safety analysis and technical documentation.
- Conduct system-level trade studies and lead qualification trials.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the survivability engineering team.
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure program success.
- Support and adhere to all company safety and environmental policies.
- Present technical solutions to executive leadership, military stakeholders, and industry partners.
- Oversee financial expenditures related to survivability development.
- Travel up to 25%, including occasional trips to Europe.
Supervisory Experience
- Manage and lead a team of 7+ engineers and survivability specialists.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to obtain SECRET U.S. Defense clearance.
- 5+ years of experience as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in survivability.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical vehicle engineering principles.
- Hands-on experience in survivability design from concept through production.
- Familiarity with U.S. Department of Defense vehicle development and procurement.
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering standards and processes.
- Proven ability to build, manage, and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Systems, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience delivering large-scale U.S. Defense programs.
- Experience working in multi-national, multi-organizational environments.
- Expertise in bid capture, contract negotiations, and delivery planning.
- Proficiency in CAx software (e.G., UG Nx, SolidWorks, CATIA, ProE) and 3D printing.
- Understanding of engineering and supply chain management in regulated industries.
Background Requirements
- Must meet company standards for background checks, employment verification, and controlled substance testing.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET U.S. Defense clearance, if required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or Engineering Management.
- German language skills are a plus.
