Thermal Management Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Pay Rate: $46.42 –$50.00/hr.
Employment Type: Full-Time | 40 hrs./week (Mon–Fri, occasional overtime)
Position Overview
The Thermal Management Engineer will support the design, development, and release of HVAC subsystems for advanced military vehicle platforms. This role ensures optimal thermal performance and integration across powertrain, electronics, and crew cabin systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to deliver reliable, mission-ready thermal solutions.
Key Responsibilities

Design and develop HVAC mechanical and thermal subsystems for power pack, electronics, and crew cabin applications

Derive vehicle-level performance requirements and develop engineering specifications

Perform fluid flow and thermal analyses to size and optimize distribution systems

Develop alternative concepts and support trade studies

Select, integrate, and validate HVAC components and subsystems

Track weight, cost, thermal, and power allocations

Develop and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDPs) and release drawings per Engineering Release Plans

Prepare and support SOWs, ICDs, RFP documentation, and related technical materials

Manage supplier technical progress and provide design oversight

Support prototype builds, testing, validation, and report generation

Troubleshoot and resolve production, supplier, or field-related issues

Present findings at formal design reviews
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
-
5+ years of thermal or mechanical engineering experience
-
Strong understanding of mechanical and thermal engineering principles

Experience supporting prototype and/or production builds
-
Ability to travel up to 20%
-
Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills

U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup
-
Prior experience with ground combat or military vehicle platforms
-
Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Security clearance

Experience working in confined spaces or around large vehicle systems
-
Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies
Additional Details

Occasional evening or weekend overtime may be required

Hands-on work in laboratory and vehicle environments

Must meet physical requirements for working on and around vehicles
